Art is about stories. When I walk through our galleries, I listen to visitors talk about art, creating their own narrative. Art tells a visual story first. Then you begin to craft your own ideas about the piece. What was the artist was thinking about – flowing lines, moody lighting, wash of color, how to pay their utility bill?

It’s my business to know people’s stories. Development is a wonderful job, really. Match people with what they love and they want to support it. Getting to know their stories is an honor.  

There are incredible art stories here now. Photographer John Weller had a run-in with a Waddell seal that nearly knocked him senseless. Mark Eberhard has a visual feast of a painting called On the Edge. Each bird has a story, a reason they are on the edge. Come for a visit. I’ll tell you a story…or listen to yours.

Mix’d Media finally kicks off tonight! We are ready to go with a mélange of DJ Vert-One, The Laff Staff, The Poetry Box, silk screening, and of course our first peek at The Exquisite Animal Community Exhibit. The Rising Sage Café is also on board mixing it up with local chefs to create “exquisite” hors d’oeuvres and of course offering everything from PBRs to thematic cocktails.

I’m also stoked to have Ben Carlson leading the screen printing project! Everyone has a chance to make a print of one of the crazy new creatures we have created by combing parts from different animals in the exhibit. You won’t see this creature in the exhibit, but you will see each piece as a part of a totally different creature. Stop by tonight and look for each of these parts in their “proper” animal place.
